Tiffen 37BPM18 37mm Black Pro-Mist 1/8 Camera Lens Filter

The effects of this filter in 1/8 are subtle but it helps you get soft images with lower contrast and slightly glowing lights. I use this with an vintage lens that is naturally hazy and soft on a film rangefinder. Together they give a very painterly character to your photos. It works reliably for me, even at 1/8 strength it is noticeable in most conditions and I haven’t seen any issues with flairs. Try it!

Perfect for taking that digital edge off your shots. After using diffusion filters I won't go back: 1) they act like a UV filter in the sense of saving your lens glass from getting banged up and scratched; 2) take that digital photography edge off your photos, giving them character, magic, and yet still sharp. Great color and contrast roll off.

In my home studio, there isn’t much room, so my key light is close to my face. Even when setting the proper exposure, there is a harsh shine on my face that is noticeable especially at 4K.I saw this Blackmist filter on Youtube and decided to buy the middle version to help with that issue.Surprisingly, it works! Without losing sharpness, the highlights in my video are much smoother.This product is a bit expensive for what it does, but if you really need it for the perfect shot, it’s worth it.

Bought it to use it on a canon R5C. I really like it for videos, less for pictures

I have the 1/4 and 1/8 for my 24-70 and 70-200 and it's been great. However, when applied to my 400 f/2.8 it had undesirable results. I still give this filter 5/5 because on the right lenses it works great but it isn't going to perform the same on all lenses. So be aware of that. But when it works, it works great.

There isn't a lot to say, it's good and works as advertised.Obviously the camera will have some issues focusing in some cases during night time and pictures will be slightly too bright in other, nothing that cannot be fix in post-prod or a setting on camera.

One thing about digital is it’s really clear, so clear sometimes it look almost too crisp. Enter the black mist filter, it softens things up for a more natural cinematic look when shooting video and will make photos softer too I love this thing!

I have changed my 2 star review below to a 1 star review because after testing the deceptively USED filters I was sent (advertised as new) I immediately noticed a major green reflective glare that would show up any time the filters were shot into direct light. I can only imagine this is because Tiffen has failed to give the filters an anti reflection coating on the side facing the camera's sensor. These will be going back! What a generally horrible experience investing in Tiffen has been.Previous review: My two star rating is not for the quality of the product but rather the fact that when I ordered two of these filters (one for A-cam, one for B-cam) I was sent one brand new filter and one USED filter. While examining the filters straight out of the case, one filter was clean while the other filter had smears across it from someone who did a poor job of trying to clean it. If this was a brand new, never used, filter then why had it been pulled from its case and had smears attempted to be cleaned off of it before I ever received it? NOT cool Tiffen. When I spend good money on filters that are twice the price of the competition, I expect at the VERY LEAST that the filters are brand new. Do better or I will never buy from you again. Be a brand we can trust, not a brand that sends people used filters (most likely past returns). .

Me gustó el efecto que da, lo usé para un video y se ve genial, en foto también le da un look muy especial, tal vez algún defecto seria que tarda un poco más en enfocar pero muy buen filtro

Tiffen chi?? Delusione totale. Non ho parole per descrivere quello che provo. Penso che un filtro Neweer che costa 4 volte di meno possa essere migliore. Prima di tutto costa un botto. E poteva andare anche bene se il filtro si comportasse come dovuto. Invece no. L'effetto BLOOM nelle alte luci ( ches arebbe l'effetto che ci si aspetta da questo filtro) è impercettibile. Quasi inesistente. Quando si fa la prova mettendolo e togliendolo, avanti indietro 5-6 volte di seguito non si nota nessun cambiamento nell'immagine. Anzi, un cambiamento si nota e tanto tanto. Ed è quello la cosa più preoccupante, cioè, l'introduzione del Lens flare a palla. Penso sia normale che ci sia un po' di lens flare ma vi assicuro che la tanta intensità prodotta da questo filtro è cosi notevole che distrugge il video. Proprio lo rende inutilizzabile. Tasto destro, cancella. Quindi alla fine, Il BLOOM è UN NULLA ed i LENS FLARE a palla. Non lo posso rendere perché è passato più di un mese da quando l'ho comprato. Avrei dovuto provarlo immediatamente, invece ho aspettato. Una montagna di soldi buttati.Ho comprato l'equivalente di Tide Optics, sempre 1/8 di potenza che costa 53 euro èd il Bloom si nota subito. Funziona come dovrebbe. In più anche l'intensita dei lens flare è molto ma molto ridotta. Il video è finalmente utilizzabile come deve essere. Tiffen, a mai più!

The first filter I received had multiple fine hairline scratches in the center. The replacement I was given had a single scratch but more noticeable. The replacement for the replacement this time has a small chip on the glass. I give up.
