A Truly Excellent Bit of Kit - But the seller doesn't include a UK Plug.

This is a fantastic NAS. The inclusion of an HDMI 2.0a port is very worthwhile as it allows playback of 4K content at 60fps without any buffering at all. Plex runs like a dream, plus the connection can be used for so much more. The two 2.5Gbe ports are a nice touch too. I haven't used them to their full capabilities yet but even with a single 1Gb connection I'm still getting a consistent average of 115 Mbs.The software is good, it covers all of the needs for most users, maybe not fully up to the standards of Synology or Qnap but not far off and miles ahead of WD. It is very simple to use and setting everything up only takes a few minutes. For such a tiny box it does everything that I need and more. The Portal app allows it to be controlled through your phone on the TV. It also has the usual cloud features and it can be managed remotely..One word of caution though, the seller is from Holland, which isn't mentioned anywhere in the blurb and the unit only comes with a Euro plug, which was more than a bit annoying. I would have taken a star off for this but it isn't the fault of the NAS, which is much better than I imagined it would be.

Great nas drive

I had to buy a new nas drive because my old one stopped me from.using it remotely so it was time for an upgrade. The quality is great feels well made and easy to use. The speed seems to be good and fast and the performance of the drive is great and has worked perfectly. I have films and TV programmes on the nas and I can watch them without problems so I highly recommend this drive

Easy to install

As a long term Synology user looking to replace a 7 year old and 8 year old NAS's I decided to give this a try.Externally looks good but internally the HDD caddy could be improved. The plastic screw less fitting come across as flimsy and possibly easily broken.Setup was very easy with non of the problems reported by other users. The ADM software while not as polished as Synology DSM 7 is perfectly adequate and I'm sure will improve. The App store is OK for the average user but I was looking at 1 app which required Docker to be installed which could present a problem for those not familiar with Docker ( Docker App's should only be available through Docker itself).Plex runs OK but the Apple TV plex client still suffers from audio sync problems on 4K just like it does with a Synology NAS (so don't blame the Asustor).Overall I'm satisfied with it up to now, - time will tell.

Great purchase!

I was going to build my own NAS but when I considered the time and the capabilities of this NAS I just thought I’ll go for it. It’s really really good! Worth every penny.

Don't put your data at risk. Don't waste your life on it.

In short, the Asustor 5304T is a piece of crap. The support is extremely disappointed. Don’t waste your life on it. Don’t put your data at Risk.1. There was a green light flashing/Blinking problem which the NAS failed to boot after I bought it for three months. The support insisted that my RAID 1 partition was corrupted. OK. I unplugged one of the disks and put it into a Linux box. I could mount and access the data successfully. I unplugged all disks, put in a brand-new disk. The NAS was also not able to boot. I removed all the disks. No disk was installed, same. I submitted a ticket and the support kept saying it is because of the corrupted partition without reading my reply saying that even no disk installed, it still didn't boot.Until they really realized, it took them four working days to reply the way to rescue the NAS. I followed the instruction and the NAS is restored. However, the NAS couldn't mount the HD neither internally nor externally. The support claimed that there were the installation HD which it couldn't be mounted. (The installation disk is something like the disk which holds your Windows10.) I then mount it to a Linux box to recover the data.I just couldn't understand why mounting a HD needs to check if it is an installation disk. I didn't test it out if a non-ADM installation disk is inserted, what is the NAS behaviour. Anyway, this mean that if I have Raid 5 or similar and if the system has green light flashing/Blinking issue again, the data is very hard to be recovered. Should I find three USB external bays and put them into a Linux box and rebuild the RAID 5? I haven’t tried this out.2. The Support missed my ticket for 5 months. You sent a ticket to the support, the support didn't reply you for five complete months. For another ticket, we had some discussion, but they ignore my question once for a month. I then complain it, they said that they were waiting for something which they have mentioned in the ticket. Well! A system down with Green Light Flashing/Blinking (you could search in Yahoo, it is a pretty common problem) with quite some discussion and wait for four working days to give a customer solution. I am extremely disappointed with the Asustor Support.3. After I recovered everything, for about another month, the same thing is happening again. This time I couldn’t recover myself, I have to send it in for a repair and the service centre confirmed that the motherboard is broken. They have to wait for the mother board. It needs four working weeks. Four working weeks to replace the motherboard? OK, it is then it is. I waited for 28 calendar days. On the 29th days, I called the service centre. They said four working weeks mean 28 working days. So, three working days mean 72 working hours? Why not at the beginning they just tell me 28 working days?4. After the system is recovered and I plugged the disks back, the system couldn’t recognize them. I called the service centre and they asked me to contact support. OK. I do this one more time. This time, another support specialist said that they could use Team view to login to my “Windows” and then they connect the NAS through your windows. That means, you must make an appointment, sit down, listen to them, do this do that, press this button, unplug the disks… etc. In the beginning the told me it takes 30 minutes. Finally, it took three hours.5. The same (from #1) configuration is happening again. The same support specialist didn’t look into the ticket and insisted the disks are corrupted. I told them I have submitted the box for a repair and all disks are new. I ran the disk doctor to scan for the problems and the report shows no problems found. I replied to the support ticket and ask them how could I tell if the disks are corrupted while the disk doctor says no problem found? The support didn’t reply at all.6. For the #1 issue, I finally figured out that it is the browser compatibility problem. I replied to the ticket, they still insist it is not the browser, but the corrupted disks are causing the problem. The support still didn’t reply how could I tell if the disks are corrupted.7. The update of the ADM (the OS) failed. I submitted the ticket to ask what I should do. They claimed that the HDs are not on their support list and they refused to support. You might think it is acceptable. OK, then you remember to install all four supported disks into the NAS. If one of them are not, they refused to support you.8. The instruction screen shots are different from the actual screen you see. It makes me very confusing. Your tasks could never get done.9. I spent quite some time to work with the support and finally I got the camera roll pictures uploaded to the NAS when I take pictures. After a week when I come back from Tokyo, I found that no picture was uploaded. IOS and Android were tested before we left but none of them worked after those devices were coming back. I then change it back to use Dropbox and never bother to figure it out again.10. I setup a folder on a PC which I want it to sync with the NAS. However, it didn’t sync and claimed that there is a bug which it doesn’t sync. Isn’t this a very simple case which the engineer should test before release this to the market? Until now, one year later, I still didn’t have their reply saying it is being fixed.11. The EZ Sync is extremely stupid. By design if I import the folder ABC in EZ Sync, the files in there stay the same. Even if you put files from other source, it won't sync at all. This is an extremely stupid design. Worse, there is no warning about it and you think the system will do the job while it won’t.12. The PC and the NAS has a sync folder. I deleted some files. The files are coming back. The support claimed that it is a bug. Isn’t this a simple test case which the test team should test before releasing to the market?13. I asked a question about the Photo Gallery. The support gave me something which doesn’t work. After a few replies, he started to ignore me. The support specialist asked if the email was sent to the junk box. Then, where was the reply in the ticketing system? He then changed saying that he “already” requested to have remote access. Where in the ticket you said you need remote access? Of course, there was none. He certainly couldn’t point it out.14. Photo Gallery again, I found there was a bug which the orientation could go wrong, and I requested them to fix it. They said there will be a new version, so they won’t fix it. However, there is no schedule on when the next version of the application would will be released. I asked them did they mean “There is no schedule to release the next version of Photo Gallery, and Asustor is not going to fix any bugs on the existing version of the Photo Gallery.” They didn’t reply.15. There are a lots of minor UI problems which blocks you in doing your works efficiently. For example, when the file explorer is copying files, the window will be greyed out, you can’t move it. If the app icon is under the greyed-out window, you have no way to access it.There are still a lot of minor issues which I have no tickets to support. I just can’t see what’s the point in using this even if it is free. I will say everyone should avoid using Asustor 5304T. Maybe everyone should stay away from Asustor NAS.

Great NAS

This NAS has been faultless. The software has been consistently updated since I got it with no bugs to speak of that have affected me. Also runs as a Jellyfin server VERY WELL at 4K HDR.Note: I don't use the cloud features so cannot comment on those but there was some security issues with this that got fixed by ASUS. But this does add to why I don't use cloud features as a rule.

I Have Had Them All (Except QNap)

UPDATE 7 May, 2024: I missed the SHR (Hybrid RAID) so much, I swapped the drives. Now the new Asustor has the four 12 TB Iron Wolf's and the Synology has two 10 TB Exos drives and two 6 TB Exos drives. Instead of a 13 TB RAID (in the Asustor), the Synology was able to create a 20 TB RAID out of them! And now the New Asustor AS5304T, with the 12 TB drives, has a 32.5 TB RAID, still synchronizing at 67% after 24 hours. The Asustor is still my favorite NAS, but not by much! That Synology Hybrid RAID (SHR) is nothing to laugh at! But the Asusor is just... clean! The hardware and the ADM (Asustor Data Master - operating system) are just really clean and nice and fast! (And it looks nice.)_________________________________________________________________HISTORY:I have an ancient TerraMaster - not in use anymore, right now, I still have A Synology DS-420+, And I already have a 2 bay Asustor (AS5202T) and a 4 Bay Asustor (AS5204T), just like the one I just bought. The TerraMaster was the worst. Of course, it's very old by now.TerraMaster totally blew it with the updates. One of the updates caused the drive lights to stay on, red all the time. Some really smart guy figured it all out and you have to follow it around and very carefully skip one of the updates and do other updates instead, in the correct order (kinda like running a maze.) I did that, fixing the drive lights, and the TerraMaster which was always pretty slow, got REALLY slow. The Synology is nice and works fine and pretty much has the most, best App's available. I can''t say anything bad about it other than that it still only has gigabit Ethernet connections (but has two of them). Both Asustor's have been working flawlessly for years. They have Iron Wolf's and Exos' in them. Never any kind of problem.________________________________________________I had some trouble with this one I just bought! It was probably self-inflicted. I put two 10 TB Iron Wolf's in it right away and turned it on. I couldn't get at it! Even Advanced IP scanner couldn't get at it. Meanwhile, it had started going to work on the 10 TB drives. I'm not positive where they were before that, but I'm pretty sure they used to be in the 2 Bay Asustor, which now has 14 TB Exos hdd's in it. So it ended up with a hard IP address that conflicted with another unit's hard IP address on the LAN. At this point, I had no choice but to let it finish with the drives. I got up this morning and it was done. What finally did it was Asustor's "Control Center". As soon as I could, I went from the "Control Center" to the NAS's webpage using Firefox. I'm pretty sure that it was the ports, too. Default is port 8000 - ie: 192.168.0.40:8000/Portal. I have those set to something else on all my NAS's for security. Pretty sure it got that config off the 10 gb drives. No NAS is all that user friendly. The fact that the "Control Center" finally "dug it out" is worth mentioning! (Note: By that time I'd already had it completely separated from the rest of the network.)Right now, it's synchronizing two 6 tb Exos hard drives I put in there after all that, into a RAID 6. It's working perfectly and it's almost 13% done. I have to give Synology some credit here. They have that SHR (Synology Hybrid RAID), which I really like! I'm missing that right about now. VERY little wasted space if you use SHR! Now I have to mirror like drives instead of combining them all. Other than that, my choice is Asustor nowadays. Really nice looking, with a relatively small "footprint" and, best of all, TWO 2.5 GBe ports! This whole computer room is 2.5 GBe now, except the Synology. The Asustor also had a processor you just can't laugh at (by NAS standards). Hardware for the price! The Asustor is the best NAS, imo. I've had mostly bad luck with their tech support in the past, though. Synology, by far, has the best tech support! You could say, I got a better NAS because I saved by doing my own tech support. All in all, I pretty much love Asustor after spending years doing NAS's.

Excellent! Fast, reliable, and easy to setup RAID 5.

Setup is a breeze, and it's easy to add or replace drives on the fly.Native Plex Server app works perfectly. Now I have Movies, TV Shows, Photo, and Music libraries in one place available from anywhere.I also have AppleTV on various Macs setup to use the media libraries as their home, and this works great for media bought from Apple.Even if your network is 1GB it still speeds up if you link the two 1GB ethernet ports in a round-robin.Throughput speed and the amount of noise are both entirely dependent on the drives you use!!I can tell you that four Seagate Iron Wolf drives singing you the song of their people makes a real racket.
