I love Martin Sheen, and have dreamed of walking the Camino in my younger days. Unfortunately I didn't achieve it, and this is my dream trip.

The Way is often the beginning inspiration for people to walk the Camino Santiago. The movie shows a lot of the gorgeous scenery. Movie itself is predictable but enjoyable.

The core of this movie lies in a father (Martin Sheen) trying to reconstruct the life of his son (Emilio Estevez), who died at the start of his planned journey on the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela on the Way of St. James. The fact that Sheen is Estevez’s real-life father adds an interesting note to the movie, as is the fact that they only interact when Sheen thinks he has seen Estevez along the Way. The beautiful Spanish landscape is a joy to experience, best appreciated on the largest screen you have available.The movie hits some wrong notes along the Way. At one point, Sheen seems to lose something important. That’s OK, but then he loses the same thing again, which seems like sloppy screenwriting to me. He picks up some traveling companions, each an involuntary loner like himself. Two of them were more interesting than the others, which diluted the story the movie might have told.By the very nature of a pilgrimage story, I am giving nothing away to say that Sheen ends the journey a changed man. Good feelings provide a suitable finale for a bittersweet journey.

I've been trying to watch this movie for a while and glad to find a blueray of it here. Someone mentioned it was available on YouTube but I didn't want to watch it thru there.

pour avoir une vision du chemin, après le témoignage d'un ami qui l'avait fait, je confirme que le film est assez réaliste et le fait que j'admire l'acteur qui joue le père et que c'est son fils (lui aussi un très bon acteur ) qui réalise y est pour beaucoup, on se retrouve en miroir avec le thème du film : un père réalise le projet que son fils devait accomplir, après la mort de ce dernier, cette quête pour rejoindre St Jacques de Compostelle est admirable, très humaine, une belle rédemption

I watched it after completing the Camino Frances, and really enjoyed it. So many aspects I could relate to, in fact I got a bit emotional. A very good film and I thought Martin Sheen was well cast. The best actor in my opinion was the Dutch fellow, he was perfect!

予てからこの映画のBDを探していたのですが、日本版はDVDしか生産されていない模様。なのでこちらで海外版(言語：英語、字幕：英語・スペイン語)を購入でき感謝しております。スペインの遮るもののない広大な麦畑、真っ直ぐ伸びる白い道、石畳の古い街並み…これぞロード・ムービーといえるような風景を鮮明な映像で楽しむことができ感無量です。物語は「息子の死」をきっかけに、主人公トムの巡礼の旅が始まります。目的地であるサンティアゴ・デ・コンポステーラまで、主人公だけでなく巡礼者は皆、自分自身と向き合いながら何百キロもの距離を歩き通すのです。歩いている最中は誰もが孤独ですが、旅は道連れ。路上で出会う仲間との血の通った交流に心が解きほぐされていくのを感じます。始まりは悲劇でこそあれ、見終わった後には自然と穏やかな気持ちになれる、そんな映画です。私もいつかこの道を歩きたい。

Très beau film sur el camino de Compostela les paysages sont vraiment magnifiques et en plus de ça véridique notamment la cathédrale de Compostelle vue de l'intérieur (et il semblerait que ça n'a pas été très facile pour avoir les autorisations....).les acteurs aurais parcouru plus de 300km ...bref moi le film m'a vraiment bien plus! mieux il m'a même donné l'envie de me lancer dans la grande aventure...

i really enjoyed this movie because the way it depicted the changes that are possible when people open themselves to others and the sense of community which can develop.
