An excellent book with lots of tips
An excellent book with lots of tips, and laid out in a very easy to follow way with step-by-step instructions. The inclusion of "pro-tips" is also quite nice. They're little blurbs which try to encourage creative thinking, experimentation, and other advice for artists and illustrators. Haven't finished it yet, but really enjoy it so far!

Desperately Needed Resource.
This is the book I have been desperately needing for the last few years. I wish there were more out there on similar subject matter, and about getting the dramatic effects and moods that as artists we are always trying to represent. It's great to have the examples and thought process and reasoning that leads to the different emotional feelings and reactions in the paintings. Though I do admit that one or two did not resound with the emotion specified, but another - at least they did inspire an emotion and led me to consider why my response may have been different. Now if someone would only publish a book on figure body language and emotion conveyed through pose and angles, my art library would be complete.(I'm looking at YOU, 3dtotal Publishing. If anyone could pull it off, you guys could).

Invaluable information
I dislike almost all of the art work in this volume, but for the insights into the thought processes of the artists, their workflow, their techniques, and how they use these to generate emotion, mood, and atmosphere, especially conveyed through the step-by-step mode of instruction, this book is invaluable.

Great but a little bit misleading
I thought this was what it says in the description. beyond basic technical stuff, how to add feeling that X factor. how to grab people by the heartstrings. how to add emotional content. and make more then just well rendered art that's correct. It does cover some of these subjects but inconsistently, by inviting artist to watch cover a different feeling or emotion. but then goes into rendering one painting each. concentrating more on how then why they watch made the choices they made. I expected more a book on theories one can apply. like a break down of say color. what colors inflict what emotions and why. then composition how composition gives us emotional content. and what kind of framing and composition will remind us and inspire different emotions. the building blocks of story telling. how to to best consider and be aware of story telling elements.or at least those are a few ways I would think one can dive deeper into making picture that are more then just pretty. But this book does have some value. there are some great artist in here, working on some great paintings. some are better then others but its a great reference book. I would have preferred a book with more examples. like have all the artist try all the examples of feeling and emotions and then you can see them all at once. like love bam a dozen examples of how different artist went their own different way or expressing what love mean to each of them. in their own different way. illustrating to the reading the many many options he/she has in his tool belt to communicate that feeling. It's a good book like I said. I wasn't like I hated it. just found the title and description a bit miss leading. I hope a book like what I was looking forward does come out some day. still great reference. these guys have a great line of books. worth checking all of them out.

First impressions, good vibs and great prints!
I can't review 100%, but for a person like me i feel it may be just most extra revising material. With a great new out look of another fantastic set of great personal tips and is always worth reading other peoples stuff and freshing on the extensive and power funamentals that bring a design or product to life, i never skip enjoying re-reading different views on my passion of there techniques and experience. From Design to the Illustrators of the world knowlege is key and i look forward to having a heavier read, could shine brighter than anything creating that one idea that could change us. Thats my first impressions

A Big Idea's book
Not for how to paint or draw but to get you to think in terms of ideas and concepts. A good read.
