I ordered the upgraded unit and I am not impressed. The red plastic head on this thing is so incredibly cheap. Why isn’t it made out of solid plastic instead of hollow in back? The ball bearing mechanism that snaps the compass in place is meh. It does its thing. I have a very true 45° angle and I checked and this unit was spot on and I was able to tighten it down so it didn’t have the wobblies like some reviewers are claiming. My guess is that the cheaper unit reviews are mixed in with the better unit reviews. regardless you can clearly feel a sharp edge on the back side where the laser cuts were made. I’ve yet to check measurements using those laser cuts. They should be filed down in back a quick sanding with 120 grit will fix that. Overall, the nicest piece of the entire unit is the hanger! It’s made out of steel and feels fairly rugged and has a nice wrinkle finish. So I guess that’s good. I wish the whole thing were made out of that material.

This is fine for the price (cheap), but it is quite a poor marking tool. The metal is stamped from very thin sheets, and the markings are applied without calibration. The edges are straight, and the rotating top works — although the angle increments are not in even numbers of degrees. Probably the worst part for marking is that the pencil guide holes are not positioned at the rules lines. If one happens to be at a useful distance then that is handy. This is a straight edge that can be locked at angles, so it is not useless by any means. Just don’t expect precision or quality.

Good sized edge ruler and simple to use. The digital display makes it easy to see the angles. Overall it works and simple to use.

This thing went straight into the trash. The scribe lines don't line up to the marked lines. The hanger is metal when plastic would have worked, but the head is plastic when should be metal. The construction had the sheet metal extending past the plastic indexing head, so it was not accurate for length. This can be fixed by filing the extended sheet metal bit flush with the plastic head. I bought the upgraded version. I can't imagine how poor the standard version is. I would not use this and certainly do not recommend.

I was intrigued by a video I watched that demonstrated the various functions and potential for use in my small woodworking shop. I was severely disappointed when it arrived for a few different, but related reasons. First, the straight edge is extremely thin, probably a 1/3 of what it should be for practical shop application. It would be more suited for a drafting table then a shop. The edge is so thin, it was warped/bent out of the box. Another design flaw is the adjustable screw for changing the setting uses a loose nut that fits (and subsequently falls out of) the frame. The nut should be imbedded into the frame to prevent this from happening.I think this item would be worth the value if it were made properly, but as it is, I cannot justify or recommend purchasing it.

Great tool. Very easy to use

The detent for the 90 degree setting is not square. I have to have the detent ball just out of the 90 degree hole for the square to be square. Also, the metal is pretty thin, making it prone to bending in a busy workshop. Otherwise, the markings are easy to read and are lasered into the metal, meaning they're always going to be there. There are plenty of holes for marking devices to ensure you get the easiest way to correctly mark your measurements.
