Absolutely need this
Absolutely love this item! I really appreciate that it is smaller and it’s actually faster than my larger machines. I appreciate that it does the smaller stuff because I make a lot of bookmarks. In total, the machine works great. I’m super happy with it and wouldn’t have it any other way

Good for starters but disappointing for serious crafters
I had the maker in the past but stopped crafting and gave it away. Big mistake! I decided to get back into crafting and just wanted to do small things around the house. This is perfect for the most part but I like to make big lettering on some decor and am unable to on the joy. Again I had intention of just using it occasionally for small projects so it does do that. The problem is once you get started into crafting you want to do more and more. This machine is very limited on that. And I was really disappointed to find out later on that it does not do print then cut. I found videos explaining how to do it with the joy but unless you actually own one of the other machines you can’t “trick” it into thinking you are going to use the other machine. I have been able to do a lot with this little machine though so I can’t complain too much. If you really think you just want to use it for smaller projects or want something more portable this will definitely serve its purpose but if you want to get into crafting and making things because you enjoy it then you should just invest in one of the bigger more expensive machines because you will definitely be disappointed at times. Also there are not a whole lot of videos on YouTube with tutorials on making things specifically using the joy because most crafters opt to eventually get the bigger ones and then this almost becomes a dust collector. I plan on using it until I invest in the maker 3 then give it away or else it will most likely just collect dust.

An amazing little machine
I bought this machine for cutting out designs on stencil vinyl to use as a blocker for copper etching. This little machine is quite the value and it has exceeded my expectations. The accuracy of the cutting is really excellent and the pressure exerted by the blade is just enough so that it only cuts through the material and doesn't even appear to touch the backing. I did find out rather quickly that although the design app is free if you want to get some of the better designs you either need to purchase them separately or get a paid subscription but at around $10 a month with your first month free you get a lot for your money and at a cost of $1.00 each to buy the premium designs should you not want the subscription it really is quite the bargain. The only real drawback is that nothing is controlled manually except for plugging it in and of course loading your project or loading the pen or knife. Everything is done through the app so if you have internet issues you are dead in the water. But for the price it is an excellent product. I would recommend buying one of the bundles if you are unsure just what you will be making or if you don't have materials for your specific project. I already had the vinyl and the transfer tape I needed and I purchased the machine only. It did come with a small cutting mat but I did need to purchase a longer mat as some of my designs could not be done with the smaller one. But other than that it was a go for me right out of the box. Installing the app and getting started were easy and the customer support is great. I give it a big thumbs up and highly recommend it if you want something that's really affordable and compact as long as your projects don't exceed the 4.5 Inch width of the feed. Or if you already have a machine for bigger projects and are looking for something for the small jobs that's compact and portable with a price tag to match.

BLUETOOTH DOESN'T WORK
I tried troubleshooting, restarting, rebooting, changed OS systems/ computers. Nothing worked! My husband is a senior network engineer... ie.. way above a computer help desk level... He was unable to get it to work on his computer or my mac.I called customer service to place a complaint there, and this seems the only way to contact them. The person had a thick accent and didn't understand how to say my name... "jennifer".. seriously. So, I'm done with the "JOY"! Now I'm leaving a bad review. Maybe "customer service" should be able to understand and speak in the customers native language. For the complete story.. I bought this to make some xmas gifts. I'm a woodworker. I printed permanent vinyl for my signs. At first glance the design space measurements were not equal to the measurements when printing.. annoying. Then you get to print and it prints in separate sections, which is fine, but each print has to be realigned! yes, so you align it perfectly in the design space, then you have to guesstimate how to realign it in the print section.. more annoying. Then, every single time I printed, I had to completely quit the program, restart the program and go back to my project (and it's a very slow program). Had to do this after every single cut, even if there were multiple cuts per project.. and there's no way to conglomerate all the parts of a project. I made some things, printed some vinyl.. and was able to deal with it.Another point - they give you practically nothing to start working. You need a separate special mat for a card, special vinyl to make something. With the original package they give you like a swatch size of permanent vinyl and a mini mat for vinyl. Couldn't even print 1 card. HAD to buy a card mat and card set for cards and HAD to buy vinyl for even one vinyl project - and wait for that to come in, since I didn't know that til after I got the machine. I mean they couldn't spare anything with the machine? Everything has to be extra?!? And don't bother getting the package with the 30 images. The images are a joke. I couldn't even find a picture for the front of a sympathy card, or simple text in script. You're better off purchasing each image you want individually for a buck or two than getting that dumb bundle with access. Waste of money. Then I tried a card. After I purchased cards, then realized i needed a card mat and waited for that to come in.. I spent a long time finding some sort of image that I didn't have to pay for.. I put everything in.. realign it in the print section and guess what.. didn't align at all. The words printed over the border...I am NOT knew to computers and have even taught basic computer classes.. plus.. really good at measuring.. so yah.. first card ruined.Put in another card... I typed a text, but didn't change the cut function to print.. why would it automatically set to cut a small text.. but anyway.. my mistake .. second card ruined.Put in another card... Now 3 print cut functions for one front side of card. Like I said, they separate, need to be realigned in the print section, but you can't see everything at once. So, I print - there are 3 parts to print. After the first part it loses connection with bluetooth again.. no problem. Completely used to quitting and restarting between cuts now. Well, it never started printing again! It was no longer just glitchy between cuts, it just never connected to bluetooth again. And the f'ing "JOY" has no buttons on it. You connect or get nothing. Changed computers, no connection, changed OS - operating systems, no connection. Turned everything off, turned off at different times, restarted in different sequence, watched youtube videos to troubleshoot, went back to old system. At one point it connected, but then disconnected right before the print. Like, why would it do that right next to the machine?!? 6 hours spent to try to print one sympathy card! So, I'm done. Cricuit, you can have your "joy" back! and I'm sending everything back with it! Thank you amazon free returns!
