I have three of these (two that are older revs). The front-loading is a big feature and keeps the footprint low when loading and unloading discs. A must-have for laptops without built-in optical drives.

Other less expensive drives are not recognized by the Mac OS. Works as advertised. Pretty quiet too.

I removed the DVD writer from the powered USB hub and plugged it directly into the PC. That resolved the problem. I can only guess that the Pioneer needs a "hard" IRQ (or interrupt). The hub has ten inputs which, because of the limited number of available hardware IRQs, creates virtual IRQs. In this case, the Pioneer was probably using a conflicting IRQ with my Logitech mouse. Plugging it into the PC gave it a unique IRQ, not a shared "virtual" IRQ; thus, it now works fine. I continue to use my mouse plugged into the hub, and there are no problems there. Again, I realize that I could be off base on this, but I don't think so. I know an IRQ conflict when I see one.

i back up my blu ray library and use plex to stream my movies within house and with family. i bought this drive because it was said that it was libredrive ready right out of the box,and it did USED to be,and this allowed ya to copy your blu rays and 4k uhd to pc. but pioneer has updated the firmware,and this is no longer possible with this drive. the old firmware up to i think 1.02 worked,my drive shipped with 1.05.i read so many reviews saying this drive works for ripping,and it is an awesome drive,really,but it just cant do now what i bought it for. soif your reading about these drives nd how thier libredrive ready out of the box,if ya get lucky and get an old stock one with older firmware,sure. but if ya get a new one.......not gonna work.

Just the thing to back up all those home movies which exceed th 25gb limit.

1. The Cyberlink PowerDVD software license provided with this drive is "CyberLink Media Suite 14 OEM". Current version is version 22. When trying to play a standard Blu-ray disk, the software pukes, will not play, makes you download a Ultra HD Blu-ray Advisor that proceeds to tell you that in order to play a standard Blu-ray disk you need "PowerDVD 15 Ultra (Retail version) version or above. Thank you Pioneer for providing software that does not play Blu-ray disks of any kind. (see first pic)2. The Cyberlink PowerDVD software will not play Ultra HD Blu-ray disks for several reasons, the first of which is that INTEL DOES NOT SUPPORT PLAYBACK OF ULTRA BLU-RAY COPY PROTECTED MATERIAL SINCE 2021 when they dropped support of their SGX trusted execution enviornment from their processors that are in all laptops and desktops. Does Pioneer not know this?!? Of course they do. Furthermore, again the Cyberlink Ultra HD Blu-ray Advisor software states that (among other reasons) that Cyberlink "PowerDVD 17 Ultra (Retail version) or above" is required to play Ultra HD Blu-ray disks. (see second pic)All of Pioneer's marketing on their website, on these Amazon listings, and on their retail boxes state that these drives can play Blu-ray disks, yet Pioneer provides software that cannot play Blu-ray disks of any kind, and flat out lies about being able to EVER play Blu-ray disks on Intel-based computers with 11th generation and above processors (starting 2021). Flat out lies.These USB-C drives and the two SATA Pioneer desktop drives are all getting returned.

I used to have an LG blu-ray burner that got the job done but wasn't all that great. This Pioneer drive is much better. It's got a USB-C interface which means good data flow and (so far) no power issues. Works in both Windows 10/11, Ubuntu 22.04, Red Hat 9.0, and Fedora 39. The only improvement I would make to this drive would be a tray loader but I can deal with a slot loader.
