Quality product, well thought out, functions to perfection
Great product very pleased. I'm not easy to impress and I don't hand out glowing reviews unless it's well earned in every aspect. With that said...I really like this product, have installed 2 of them and would only use this gate for young children. Easy installation even if your stairwell has moulding, trim, etc that could be a little tricky. Your product is flexible and if your a bit off level, or it's cock eyed it doesn't lose function and let's non handy people still get the job done. It's made of quality materials, sealed with quality lacquer, the wood isn't easily dented...But what I'm really pleased about is how secure it latches. No baby on earth is getting that open or getting through it. Not a chance. Its next level sturdy. I lock that gate on the top of the stairs and let my toddlers crawl around the whole upstairs with 110 confidence and piece of mind that cant figure out a way over or around it, nor can they muscle through it. The lat thing mechanism is the all the glory with this product. It swings & glides smoothly, functions smoothly, versatile, etc. Ita complete in every way. There are no flaws, loose end, short cuts taken with this gate. You have to anchor it to the wall, its incumbent upon you the consumer, to use quality anchors & a level...They make this installation about as easy as it gets if you're looking for a very sturdy, very secure, very toddler proof gate. My youngest toddler was another top step when she fell, back of the head first, when I grabbed her shirt at the last second before she was going down 20 stairs. These gates have made sure that was a 1 and done situation. Nothing is more valuable than her safety and this is the gate I stand behind. You will too

Puppy gate. Modified for cats.
I did not have the best mounting situation for this gate. The opening of my hallway is uneven and the instructions say it needs to be perfectly parallel. However, my use for this gate is for pet management and not child safety, so I was willing to gamble a little. Behind the first door in the hall would have worked better for mounting but I needed the gate in front of the cat room door. Metal gates were ideal for the mounting issue but did not have kitty walk through so I chose this wood one because it was the easiest to modify. Leftover door trim pieces worked well enough for the angle needed for the closing brackets. Now I have a perfect locking gate to keep a big 6 month old puppy out of trouble and the cats can get away and relax in the back of the house. Great height, easy to use and once I tackle the painting jobs & match it to the trim it will look even better.

Stain or paint match it!
I stained this gate to match my staircase and it looks great. The latching mechanism takes some getting used to but it is strong and very effective. The gate can swing 180 degrees.

Good Gate, Would Be Better With Improvements.
I have used 3 of these gates for about 18 months now. Anyone who has stairs in their home should make sure they are using a hardware mounted safety gate at the top of them, a suspension gate is simply pointless because if the child pushes on it the gate may fall over and both will go tumbling down the stairs. I chose this particular gate after a lot of research, and frustration from not being able to find a perfectly rated gate. I am very happy I went with these. I have one on both the top and bottom of my basement stairs, as well as one installed between my living room and kitchen. I think they are easy for adults to use but rather difficult for a child (which is perfect). The gate slides out easily if you want to set it aside, although I have found that since it swings both ways it can be easily kept open without interfering. What you need to know: These gates will do their job. They stay in place and are strong enough against toddlers and babies. What could be improved: I feel the quality of these gates needs improvement. The individual posts feel thin and flimsy, however the gate as a whole is sturdy. A coat of varnish would also make the wood look and feel nicer.

Super sturdy, reasonably easy to install and open and close
We have 4 of these and are happy with all of them. Some of them are 6+ years old and they have really held up to use. It’s raw/unfinished wood which is ok for use indoors. That can make them difficult to clean. They are easy to install, with or without the paper guides. I’ve done it both ways and the fittings are easy to get lined up.The best part for us is that it still holds up against my 33” 4 year old. He can yank on it all he wants and won’t jerk the screws out of the wall. It’s also still a little too tall for him to climb.

Love this gate
Love this gate, it swings open either way, and was very easy to install, also in brand new nice condition.. I was actually even able to install it in a rather tough place, in our hall way, before our bathroom, so our daughter can have the access to the bathroom while toileting.. It is about 6 inches taller than the first one we had purchased over 5 years ago, which is a plus because it isn't easy for little ones to try and climb over it and get injured.. Also the latch doesn't allow for little ones to easily open it however is easy enough for adults or older children.. The main reason purchasing the same one, is that the first one is still in great working condition after 5 years, we have used it to block off the top entry of the finished basement stairway, you don't need to worry about tripping over a mount or a bar, on the top of the stairway floor as with other gates, you just swing the gate open either way and you don't have to worry about tripping, slipping, or your foot getting caught, which is an important factor with safety, when you have a lot of traffic up and down the stairs.. Also easy to get the laundry up and down the stairs as well any thing you may need to bring up or down, even large items, since you can lift the gate up and remove it then replace it back in to the slots with ease.. I would highly recommend this gate!!!
