Levi'sMen's 501 Original Fit Jeans (Discontinued)

I was a bit underwhelmed by some reviews claiming problems with the size, fit, and fabrics. However, my pair was just perfect. I have many pairs of quality, high end jeans in my collection, so I can easily see any problems. Granted I am not planning to wash my pair for as long as I can, but so far it looks really good for jeans that you can wear every day. This is not LVC but it's a good value for the money. You would do even better if you catch a sale on Amazon.My pair was made in Egypt, fabrics' weight is probably around 12 oz or slightly less. It's not selvedge but the seams look very good. The waist was the exact size, the inseam was plus one inch. As I am planning to wear them rigid I am not too concerned about shrinkage even though these are STF jeans. When I do wash jeans I am not using a washing machine or a dryer, so I can't comment on what would happen if you do.

I have been wearing 501 Shrink to Fit (STF) jeans for as long as I can remember (well over 30 years). I have always worn the Rigid STF 501's, but those are hard to find for under $65. This pair looks pretty close to my existing jeans. I have a new pair (with tags and never washed) in the closet that are about 10 years old. I never used them because I had three existing pairs that I was wearing and didn't need them yet. I recently washed the new-old pair (because one pair finally wore out) and they are just like the ones I've always worn. I decided I should probably get a "back-up" pair in case I start to wear out my existing 2 pairs I wear every evening and for weekend chores. I was skeptical of these jeans for a few reasons; mostly because of the reviews and also because of the "Waterless" manufacturing process.Upon arrival, I immediately compared these jeans to my new-old pair and I was not impressed. They seemed to be a thinner material, not near as rigid or stiff, and the color was more gray and not the nice deep blue I've come to expect (even though the color was noted as "Rigid" and the PC9 code or MPN was "00501-0000"). I decided to take a chance and wash them. They fit as expected (shrunk down to the proper size) and the color seemed to become less gray, although they still look gray when compared to my new-old Rigid pair. Time will tell how durable these jeans are but for now I'm satisfied and will keep them.

They remind me why I wore levis in the first place on the ranch. Classic fit and comfort. Can load a truck full of wood, dig a ditch, climb the roof, squat under a car, in comfort.

These days with the proliferation of stretchy jeans, it has been hard to find all cotton denim. 501s are one such product and I was skeptical when I received them as they were large, and a bit long. Then as advertised, they shrunk after a wash and became perfect. They sit well around the waist and excellent fit around the butt and thigh. Honestly, these will be on the top of my list when I need other 100% cotton denim now!

So, these are the closest thing you'll find to vintage levi's without forking over hundreds on a pair of LVC's. If you're interested in trying out the raw denim craze without going all in on a pair of selvedge jeans, this is the place to start. This was my second pair of 501 STF's, and I love them.I'm gonna start out with the review for people who know what they are about to buy. Some people have said that buying on amazon you aren't sure exactly what quality you're getting. This could be true for other jeans (some manufactured in egypt, mexico, indonesia, etc) but I've had two identical pairs, same quality, ordered 3 months apart. I trust amazon.If you aren't a return 501 STF customer, don't rely on me to convince you. There's a few blogs that have detailed info on why they love this pair of jeans, look for one on Primer and one by Thighs Bigger Than Your Head, both on the 501 STF. Then there are places like RawrDenim and 501xxinfo that show you what they end up looking like after a few years of wear, and they range from cool to awesome. They'll give you the sizing info they prefer, in general, if you want a slim fit, don't size up in the waist, and size up 2-3" in the length (it's safer to be long than short). I went both routes (levi's suggested method and blogger suggested method) and got two different but still good pairs of jeans. the levi's way gives you a little baggier fit (i'm used to the levi 511 and gap skinny, myself, but i'm converting over to 501) that seems to be more like "dad jeans" but if you want fade and comfort, then the levi's suggested route is the way to go.To conclude, buy these jeans, and wear the hell out of them. You won't regret it.

I've been buying used Levi 501 jeans from Ebay for the past few years. Knowing what they sell for in stores made it easier to buy them for $10 to $15 a pair, then toss them a year later because the crotch tore out. I was surprised to see that these shrink to fit 501's are very affordable. After a little online research, I found that only the STF's are double stitched through the crotch and inseam areas, so I expect these to be much more durable. The thickness of the denim also leads me to believe they will last a long time.The whole shrink to fit method, however, could be better spelled out. Seems to be a bit of lore, differing opinions abound, and there's no real "official" instructions. The "mystery" might add appeal for some, but I was left to worry I'd ruin these jeans if I did something wrong, like make them shrink too much and I couldn't wear them. Wearing jeans in the bathtub, then letting them dry on me as I go through my day? How can anyone actually do this? Plus, it's winter!My bottom line: While they didn't shrink exactly like I wanted, I can adjust the size I order next time and maybe be more aggressive on the drying to get my fit just right. I will buy more, and I expect these will last for years!
