Why is there an "L" in front of the amino acids on the label? In chemistry, an amino acid by definition is any molecule that contains both amine (amino) and carboxyl functional groups. All amino acids share this common chemical "backbone" that consists of a carbon atom to which four substituent groups are bonded: a nitrogen-containing amino group (NH2), a carboxyl group (COOH), a hydrogen (H+) atom and an "R" group. The "R" group or side chain varies in electric charge, size, structure and solubility in water, giving each amino acid its distinct chemical properties. Since all amino acids (except glycine) contain at least one asymmetrical carbon atom, which produces a mirror image, they exist in nature as two forms (stereoisomers). The forms are designated as either D- or L-, depending on their structural relationship to a right- or left-handed reference point. While both forms are found in biological systems, all amino acids constituting proteins are composed of the L-form. DL-amino acids are a 50/50 mixture of both the D- and L- form of the molecule. What does it mean to be Kosher Certified? Kosher, meaning "fit or proper" in Hebrew, refers to foods that are prepared and eaten according to a complex set of Jewish dietary laws, including what foods may be eaten at the same meal, how animals are slaughtered, and the use of food additives (for example, kosher salt is free of additives such as iodine). The kosher symbol tells consumers that a certifying agency has inspected the production process from beginning to end. Keeping kosher has become synonymous with quality, cleanliness, purity and eating foods that have been manufactured at a higher standard, Bluebonnet products bearing the KOF-K Kosher Supervision emblem have been carefully supervised with each ingredient tracked to its origin and strict rules imposed on hygienic processes. Where are their lot/batch # and expiration date located on the bottle? Bluebonnet has been using a brand new bottling line for their production line. One of the special features on the new bottling line is that it stamps, in white lettering, the batch number and expiration date on the bottle above the label, right below the cap on each bottle. Once the bottle is stamped, the shrink-wrap is applied. Do I need to worry that the internal "sealed for your protection" is not always stuck on or glued? The inner seal is simply pressed on and only a light glue is utilized, since it can leave residue and potentially may cause negative effects to the inner environment of the glass bottle. The security seal is the outer shrink-wrap, which should never be tampered with is their seal of protection. In fact, many clients ask why they do not perforate the shrink-wrap for easier handling. There are two reasons for this 1) is for their retailers: reduces theft, breakages, and 2) for their clients: it helps to reduce the amount of oxygen that may affect the potency of the product, while it sits on the shelf waiting for sale. What is the source of the gelatin in their softgels? The major source of their gelatin in their softgels is bovine. However, they do have several products that have a vegetarian softgel derived from corn, including Bluebonnet's Vegetarian DHA 100 and 2
