Works any length up to max amperage rating
Used with Mi-Light 4 channel controller. The auto patterns are fixed so no customization there. There is no combination of white and RGB together. To have a steady light one must select a RGB combo or White exclusive with a brightness level.

After 3 years of use
Still going strong as the day I installed. Very simple to use. My setup: power supply and controllers installed in a pvc outdoor electrical box in the back of my house. Using all 4 channels to power separate led strips in 10 locations. I expected to get ~20ft range - but the range is more like 70-100ft. I can control from the street in front of my house. As others have stated the color mix is done with the RGBs and white is separate. For my use that's ok. Color wheel gives about as custom look as you could ever ask for. I don't use the onboard programs, just static colors. The price is awesome.
