Giving it a workout
So, didn't use this how most of you are. I bought it because it claims to go up to 158°. I've been doing quite a bit of work in the attic: wiring, ductwork, insulation, stuff. This necessitates my butt working up there where it's hotter than Satan's aaaa... um, hot place. The remote sensor is up there on a joist. It's working well but realistically it's only about 20' or so from the display. And, in fact, the display has all it's bars for the connection to it. Haven't had any problems with it.Among other things I'm going to end up putting powered exhaust fans on the roof. I've read too much oh, it feels cooler. I want to know what's going on. I'm putting entirely too much work, money, and sweat into this endeavor to 'feel'.It's early April, you know, earlyish spring. I'll let you know in a few months if it(or I) melts.Yeah, not much of a detailed review I know. But I doubt most of you are checking to see if it can get to 159°.

Buy this excellent thermometer
Buy this! Very happy with it. Accurate and reliable. If it ever isn't, it's time to change batteries. I even take it along camping so I can know outdoor temperature without going outside.

after 6 months still happy with it
Very pleased. I've had it for 6 months, it is still on the original batteries. Setup was easy, its reported temperature always pretty much matches what local reports say. Highly recommended

Requires patience
I had written a negative review at first because it seemed that the sensor did not work and outside temperature did not register. Amazingly enough, now, 3 hours later it displayed the correct temperature. When I inserted the batteries and set it up it showed a 76 degree outside temperature. It was 89. It stayed like that for over two hours and now it displays the correct outside temperature of 92 degrees. I almost returned it because I thought it was damaged. The box looked like it went thru WWII. I assume somebody else had returned it because it did not look like factory packaging. May be somebody else thought it was broken due to the long time to register the correct temperature. Should be noted in the instruction manual that it might take several hours to register correct temperature.

Works well for my needs
Works great. I put the remote sensor under the house in the crawl space to see if and when I need to drip faucets during winter cold snaps.

Two straight units have been calibrated incorrectly - outdoor temperature readings are wrong
[the model number on the front of the AcuRite instruction manuals is 00424M, while the model number on the back of the outdoor sensors is 00606TXA1. Confusing? I certainly think so! Something feels screwy about that! Why don't the manual and sensor have the same model number?!]I bought the first of my two AcuRite thermometers from Amazon in November 2024, but didn't notice until the recent cold snap (I live in the PNW) that my outdoor temperature readings were off by 4 degrees. I returned the first sensor/receiver pair last week, and received the second sensor/receiver pair a couple of days ago - it also is off by 4 degrees for the outdoor reading. I have written AcuRite asking them if I should just keep exchanging them through Amazon Prime until I get one that works correctly, which certainly couldn't be profitable for either AcuRite or Amazon!* this incorrect sensor reading occurs, as far as I can tell, around 45 degrees. When I brought both pieces insides (both times), the temperature readings were the same for both the sensor and receiver. It's between 40-45 degrees that the 4 degrees differential appears.* I am using lithium batteries in the sensor, it's 8 feet above a wooden deck, and it's under an eave. I'm using the same nail that I have for over 5 years with other AcuRite thermometers.* I have two points of calibration: a Weather Underground weather station one block from my house, and the thermometer in my 3-year-old York heat pump.Up until now, I have always been very pleased with AcuRite. I wonder if they got sold to somebody?
