Ticking sound actually helps me, and air is clean!
I've used it for a little over a year now, and it's fantastic. I had to move in middle of the pandemic due to the rising cost of rent. But with rising demand in apartments, we didn't have much choice aka carpeted floor. Dad suggested me this, and you can tell it works cuz whenever there's a power outage and i forget to power it back on for a few days, I'll be sneezing haha.Just remember to vacuum or wash the rear filter cover. I forgot to, and dust was caked on - which explained why it felt like it wasn't working properly at one point. The picture is when we were cooking bacon and it smoked lol. It immediately knew there's something's up. (Orange color) So when the light changes color, there's a quiet ticking sound. Honestly it doesn't bother me. In fact, I'd rather it make noise since it let's me know something's in the air. I don't have a great sense of smell, so I can't tell if something's burning. But this does! I know that's not it's intended purpose but it helped me a couple of times. That said, it's soooo quiet. If I have anything going on in the background, I won't hear it.I don't use the humidifier part, but the humidity sensor is helpful!

Works great!
We moved from FL to NV and the humidity change really affected us as well as just being in a dusty environment. We put this in our master bedroom and it does a great job to clean the air and add humidity which has made it much easier to sleep. It meets our needs. For reference, bedroom is roughly 20' x 18' with 16' ceilings and a joining 20' x 8' sitting / media room.

2 Year Review (ion generators stop working if not cleaned!)
I've had this machine for 2 years. I bought it to help with VOCs from resin 3d printing and general air quality in my apartment which I feel it helps with. I like the display which shows air quality. I don't use the humidifier much since it is humid where I live. I did use it once though and it did it's job well. I usually just have it on clean air, max fan setting, and ion generation on.For about six months it was in a cigarette smoke environment. When I got it back I had to change the filters to get rid of the smell and was honestly pleasantly surprised that the smoke smell was gone from the machine after that. I don't think it did much for the smoky environment though.Unfortunately, the ION generator function quit working and there was no replacement or anything I could find online. I could tell it wasn't working because the periodic high pitch buzzing sound turned into a low constant buzz.I was able to fix it thankfully. However it involved almost completely dissembling the machine. There are actually two ion generators which is why there is an alternating sound. You can see them without any disassembly if you look through the top where the air comes out. One is towards the top and the other is towards the bottom. The attached picture is from outside looking at the lower one. You might be able to see if yours are dirty.I attached a few pictures of before and after cleaning the generators. I knocked off the crusty white stuff with rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush but that didn't actually do the trick for me. I ended up taking the cover off and rubbing it with acetone. careful not to use to much as it will melt the plastic. I cleaned the outer ring as well as the spike. If you are looking to take this thing apart it is relatively straight forward after removing the filters. There are no plastic clips. Once you remove the screws the pieces can be easily removed to reveal more screws. I think there were 21 screws in total. All the same size Phillips head. Took me about 2 hours. Just keep taking big parts off till you finally take the top/front off. Careful here because there are wires attached to the front with little slack. I laid the machine on its side. It's really unfortunate that Sharp does not allow easy access to these generators as they seem to in their other products, because they do need regular cleaning.

Smart and efficient
The auto sensor is very effective at detecting odors and the plasmacluster system noticeably improves air quality. Excellent humidifying function as well, and everything runs very quietly.

Good Humidfier - Not supported for parts replacement
Purchased this product (KC850U) in 2015 - used about 5 months each year in the hot dry season. Works really well for use in bedroom while sleeping. Now the BAD: my unit still works fine except a Styrofoam Float (bottom of page E-17 in owners manual) is on its last legs. This is an item that needs to be cleaned. I have tried to get a replacement part with no success - so I have a good running machine that needs an inexpensive part and not able to obtain it. Calling SHARP support is terrible, they say they do not sell to consumers and recommend a 3rd party that does not offer the part, and the ones they do have say unavailable. BEWARE customer support for this unit seems to be non-existent. I realize I've had mine a long time, but you would expect them to have parts support for units that are still sold - this unit is still available for purchase here and on the SHARP website.

Terrific multi-function product
So far, lots of good impressions:- Easy to set up- Clear instructions and manual (usually don't use, but did this time)- Brought humidity in a fairly large area (larger than unit should be able to handle) up to a comfortable 50%- Although I can't measure how clean the air is, it seems good.Really no major downsides at this point. Only minor quibbles. Water container for humidifier is a bit tall, so a little awkward to fill. If it were a couple inches shorter and wider that might be ideal (although from a design standpoint I see why they did it). It hasn't been an issue, but it would be nice if you could set a target humidity level. I'm not crazy about he "quilted" design on the front, but don't really care about the looks. All that said, still a 5 star product as there is nothing else like it on the market. NOTE: they have a smaller unit that doesn't have the humidifier, so be careful when ordering if that's important to you (it was to me). If they had the target humidity level (like dehumidifiers have, so it doesn't seem that hard), I might volunteer to sell these door to door (almost).
