Love!

One of my favorite tools in my shop. I build cornhole boards, so I use it daily, and more then my table saw. Worth the money if you rip a lot of woodworking.

This saw makes me feel much more confident in my ability to tackle projects

Why did I wait so long? I know there are many other track saws but I'm married to Makita. I have a bunch of other Makita tools and I'm very happy with them - so when it came to a track saw that definitely influenced my choice here.About the saw itself...it's magic. When I make cuts with it they look so straight you'd think a robot did it. I had a big project to cut over 100 sheets of plywood and so I decided I'd take the plunge. This saw is just so cool - it takes up much less space than a really nice table saw but with clever work holding you can get amazing results with it. Would I like a really nice table saw with a huge cast iron table? Yes I would. Would I use it enough to warrant the space and money that it would require, no I wouldn't. That's where the track saw comes in. She's a beauty, and using her makes my work look like I have more skill than I actually do.I'm sure the other track saws are awesome, maybe better in this way or that. But if you have Makita and you are trying to decide between this or a Festool, don't bother. Put your money here and the cash you save put towards a Makita backpack dust collector or something.Aftermarket track support is available as well, because the track is the same pattern as Festool. It means you can afford to purchase more track pieces in different sizes. I have four 55 inch tracks and one 39 inch track. I also have the track clamps that Makita sells and those are quick to use and they work great with the tracks. The last accessories that I just purchased are these two items: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09ZVLCTQJ?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details and https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00005NMUC?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details.For ANY brand of track saw one thing to keep in mind is that you will want to buy a spare blade immediately. The chance that you'd be able to get a 20mm arbor blade that fits in the saw from a big box store is...unlikely. I accidentally decided to try and cut through a metal saw horse last week and I found out the hard way that these saws don't take a 5/8 arbor circular saw blade (no brand of track saw does from what I can tell). So if you are on a job and you have a time constraint, get a spare blade. If you do end up getting this saw and you want to cut big sheets of stuff, build yourself a table to hold your work piece and also consider building something to hold the pice that will want to fall off after the cut. You don't want to have a beautiful cut right to the end and have the weight of the cut piece create a tear out.But yeah, she's a gem of a saw :-)

Quality

I wish I have gotten this a long time ago. Cutting is superb, and there is nothing to complain about the unit.

Just what I needed

In my 40s, I bought the best circular saw on the market, a Skil worm drive 71/2” magnesium model. I built garages, remodeled homes and used it to break down sheet goods. Now I’m in my 70s and still have that saw but it much too big and heavy. Besides I no longer have a vehicle that can take a whole sheet so I have to cut it up to fit my SUV. Read all the reviews and YouTube videos and decided on the .makita since I have other cordless Makita tools sharing the same battery. When it arrived, I checked the condition of the packaging since some reviewers complained about damaged. The 55” Trac and saw packaging was perfect. The saw has a separate plastic storage box from the batteries and dual charger. After reading the directions and figuring all the controls and setup I tried out the first cut which is very important as it defines the zero clearance strip. I sawed up a sheet of Baltic birch 3/4” sheet. What a difference! The saw with two batteries weight far less than my Skil worm gear. It’s balanced nicely, no nose heavy. The Trac needed no clamps to stay put.as long as you sweep away the saw dust. It felt like it just glide through the cut with very little resistance. Depth of cut is easy to control and the Trac made it cut straight on the line. What usually take 30 minutes took less than 10 since I don’t have to fiddle with clamps, giggle the guide the remain on the line and lugging that big saw to make simple cuts. The plastic container for the saw generous in size and it’s bigger than the Festool container, especially if you consider that separate box for batteries and charger. I was a bit surprised when it kept cutting the rubber zero clearance strip after making a full length of cut. It didn’t affect the quality of the cut. It’s rubber and flexing so after thinking about it, it made perfect sense that it’ll take more than one pass the get it done. I’m very happy with this saw.

Makita is worth it! Works great

Amazing..... Cuts and glides perfectly on track. Plenty of battery oompf. I graduated from a WEN... which was just functional...but cheap and kludgy. The Makita was worth every penny. Not sure how it compares to other brands (e.g. Milwaukee or Festool). Easy to adjust. FYI Depth of cut is only a metric scale in mm. Can' comment on longevity or dust collection yet.

Amazing tool.

Excellent product! This is a game changer for any woodworker. Safest and easiest way I’ve ever broken down sheet goods. I have been cutting a bit oversized with the plan to finish on the tablesaw to exact dimensions, but honestly these cuts are just as good. Table saw still excels at keeping consistent dimension across pieces.

Should have bought this sooner

This is just a really nice saw. I read all the reviews and watched the videos by different people. If you want to cut sheet wood products for any precision work, this is the thing you want. I don't know if it's a replacement for a table saw as some have claimed, but for working with 2'x2' to 4'x8' 1/4 to 3/4 plywood, it's the perfect tool. That may sound specialized, and I guess it is, but that's what a lot of cabinetry and projects are built with.I was hesitant on battery power, but much easier than the cord, and with 2 batteries it has plenty of power. I'm using a non-M brand track, and that's fine, too. Blade that comes with it is more than good. If it dulls I'll try to replace with the same. It makes a splinter free mirror smooth cut when new....will see how it holds up, but being name brand and carbide I expect it to be fine.
