I never liked the ring style that uses a set screw on the to attach to the bit. The best way to use this tool is to separate the two halves, remove the plastic piece and insert it over the smooth end of the bit with the flutes completely exposed then reassemble and loosely thread male and female halves together. Next. set the depth by pushing the bit into the fixture. Once you get the desired depth, tighten the two halves together. It works perfectly.

I love how easy they are to use, and to get adjusted to the right depth. It works WAY better than tape or a sharpie.However, if you’re aggressive or in a hurry, they can slip. Just be aware of that and take your time, and they work great.

These are much easier to use than the ring/allen wrench style. Set up and used it on a 3mm bit in less than 30 seconds. A positive solid block so much easier and quicker to set up. These will push the old style to the back of the drawer!Update: Would not solidly secure on a 7/64" bit, so I backed it with a regular stop ring, re-positioned it, then secured the ring behind it. These are much easier to position than the ring and set screw.

This is a well thought out and well built piece of gear for a workshop. Fitting the stop onto a drill bit and adjusting for depth could not be any easier. No more looking for the right Allen wrench and then trying to get the stop to stay in place during drilling. You simply loosen the knurled collar, slide the drill bit through the stop, determine the correct depth, and then turn the collar to lock in place. The process takes seconds. The kit comes with a smaller and a larger stop to match a range of drill bit sizes. I plan to purchase several more sets to scatter throughout the shop.

These have a plastic insert with the teeth (fore and aft) that clamp down on the drill when the aluminum shell is tightened. The larger one works fine, but in the smaller one the plastic teeth were closed completely would not allow the drill to be inserted. One tooth broke as soon as I tried to move them apart a bit. I need them now so won't go through the return process--I'll just make it work as it is. Cheap, but a bit disappointing.

I really wanted this to work because it's so much more convenient than the drill stops that have allen screws in them. Putting them on and taking them off was relatively easy, but the largest one didn't fit the sizes that were advertised and the plastic piece inside broke. Also, unless you use super human strength to tighten them to the drill bit, they'll slip, which was fine for inaccurate deck work that I was doing, but if you're doing precision work, these aren't for you.

I used this product to drill holes for shelf pins in a pair of upper kitchen cabinets. I'd been wrapping bits in blue tape to mark the desired depth, but after a few holes the tape would fray or move. This product is very easy to use and holds to the bit securely, proving a much more effective method to control the depth of holes.
