Great knife sharpener
We hadn't realised how blunt our knives had gotten until we replaced the sharpening wheel. Fits perfectly into the Robert Welch knife block and our knives are like new again.

Simple strong design that takes a replaceable sharpening stone
The design is simple and robust. I bought a spare sharpening stone so this unit should see me out. I like the fact that it won't be plastic land fill in a years time. My knives were new and sharp to begin with and it does a good job in keeping them that way. I can't comment on how good it would be on sharpening blunt knives.

Deliberately short life.
This is two disks that are shaped in the same way on all four sides even though the knife only touches the two sides that face it other. They blunted very quickly. No reason at all that they couldn’t design it in such a way that when the stones go blunt you can take it apart, turn the sharpening stones the other way round, screw it back together and get twice the life out of it. Don’t get me wrong, it works well for a while. But with a tiny bit of re-engineering this would work better by giving you twice the life. But, obviously it’s all about profit. Two stone discs, four possible sharpening edges. Only two used. But the unit is designed not to be able to turn the two discs so you can then use the unworn sides. I’m no genius. So I’m guessing the people who designed it know this. But they fixed in such a way that you can’t take it apart. I know as I tried. Company are taking us as fools.
