Well paced, engaging stories.
Great Value. There about 60 stories including 2 novels. Consistently good quality. Watson narrates and Sherlock Holmes demonstrates his method.

Stunning Book and Brilliant Stories
Received my book today and I absolutely love it! My photo of my cat with the book perfectly sums up my opinion of it as well as giving a rough idea of the size of the book. Firstly, the leather is sturdy and soft embossed with gold and silver which really is beautiful. I also love the inside cover which features a print inspired by important objects from the stories such as a revolver and pocket watch. The gold edging to the paper is lovely too. Will definitely be a show piece on my bookshelf! Now, onto the stories themselves. I was slightly concerned when reading the reviews but I can confirm that there are not any Americanisms in the hardback copy. The test is small but neat and easily read. Have already read A Study in Scarlet and I cannot bring myself to put it down. You truly do get what you pay for and I totally recommend the leather copy of this book! Ordered my copy late evening around 8pm and it arrived 9am the next day! Very efficient service!

An absolute bargain
I had never read any Sherlock Holmes before, and only knew The Hound of the B., but recently read all the stories after downloading them to my Kindle. Thought I would buy this DVD (at an almost giveaway price at the time) to watch the stories I had just read. Am almost finished now and have really enjoyed the experience. Jeremy Brett is (surely) the ideal Holmes - he obviously enjoyed bringing out the quirkiness of the character and almost 'camps it up' on occasion, with wonderful, subtle comic effect. A set I will doubtless watch again with equal pleasure in the future. One irritation for me though (not enough to lose a star on my rating though, I suppose) is the really dreadful 'in your face' anti-piracy track you are forced to watch every time you load any of the DVDs. I mute it and do something else for a few minutes.. bad miscalculation IMHO - what really is the point of it, who's it going to deter? Anyway, once past that, pure joy...

Delightful, nostalgic, gripping
In the first story in this collection we find Watson meeting Holmes, and sharing 221b Baker Street - to split rental costs. Here Watson describes Holmes as into drugs, narrow-minded, misogynistic, but brilliant at logical deductions.Conan Doyle's writing is often strongly evocative of time and place - for example, in the first story describing the arid western American desert and its Mormon society. So, mysteries apart, this book is a good read with weightier content than you might expect. Sometimes the stories are very tense and moving, for example in The Scowrers. There is a sprinkling of typos - and some Americanisms which worry some people, but they did not worry me. Occasionally Conan Doyle shows a negative view of race - for example with references to 'savages'. Times have changed, so I overlook this. But I also found myself fascinated by snippets, for example: "...But the Times is a paper which is seldom found in any hands but those of the highly educated". Well times certainly have changed! So enjoy this delightful read.

Part of mine is missing
Really good book with all of Stories of Sherlock Holmes. Or at least they would all be here if part of mine wasn't missing. It comes towards in the final section "The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes". There are only two stories in my copy and there should be 12 (I think). The only two I have in this copy are The Adventure of the Mazarin Stone and The Problem of Thor Bridge, By my reckoning the following 10 stories missing The Adventure of the Illustrious Client; The Adventure of the Blanched Soldier; The Adventure of the Three Gables; The Adventure of the Sussex Vampire; The Adventure of the Three Garridebs; The Adventure of the Creeping Man; The Adventure of the Lion’s Mane; The Adventure of the Veiled Lodger; The Adventure of Shoscombe Old Place and The Adventure of the Retired Colourman. This means that unfortunately, I can only give 3 stars and I might be a little generous at that.
