The Trouble with Children (According to Dog)

Kids really are the worst.
And your dog knows it. Adorable story about poorly parented children having moments of tender bonding love with a dog. The fact the dog ends up overlooking the bad behaviors for the end of the day cuddles is a big indicator that parents have really stopped parenting children, but it is cute and the illustrations are too. The storyline is really about Grace, having grace for others and ourselves. But seriously, teach your kids how to respect animals with gentleness and love.

A Tail-Wagging Delight with Heart and Humor!
The Trouble with Children According to Dog by Katie Weaver is an absolute gem! Told through the hilarious and heartfelt lens of a dog, this book perfectly captures the chaos, quirks, and pure joy that come with living alongside children. Katie Weaver's voice is witty and warm, and the canine narrator will have both kids and adults laughing out loud—and maybe even seeing themselves through Dog’s very honest eyes. Whether you're a parent, pet lover, or just in need of a charming and clever read, this book is a must-have. It’s a brilliant reminder of the unconditional love (and patience!) our furry friends give us every day.

story is awesome
I love love this book!! I don't love that the corner of the book is bent and I like to keep my book binding neat. Not trilled with that part but the story and pictures are awesome! one star removed for the corner of the binding being bent.

Funny and very true
This is an awesome rhyming story (poem) that lets us know what one pup thinks. With AWESOME illustrations that go with the poem we become privy to the thoughts of one fearless pup as he makes it through life at the hands of his adoring (cough, cough), small humans. Children will giggle all the way through the story. As a poet for 60+ years I have to comment on the poetry of the story. Way too many people seem to believe they can write poetry and therefore HAVE to share their talent with young readers. Unfortunately a large number of them have little or no understanding of the craft. The rhymes are fairly good most of the time, but oh what a mess the rhythm often is. Yes, I know about free verse with no rhythm necessary. However, when you present a story as a poem, the rhythm needs to at least be in the ball park. Sure, every now and then there can be an extra syllable because it reads like it sounds when we speak. In those instances it sounds off if the meter IS intact. Most people would say they don't like poetry. They may or may not be correct. As a music major I like different types of music, but that doesn't mean that I like ALL "music". I use quotation marks because when people are just screaming, I don't call that music no matter what others think about it. The same holds true for poetry. Someone may NOT like it, but that is often because they have been repeatedly subjected to terrible examples of the craft. Many of those experiences began at a very young age. What I want you to understand is that THIS story works very well both rhythmically and in rhyme. THIS is the kind of poetry children need to hear at a young age so they can grow up knowing poetry doesn't have to be something to avoid or dislike. It can in fact be a beautiful thing. Share this story with your children and give them a quality exposure to poetry. WELL DONE, Katie! Well done!
