Sleek, lightweight, and works exceptionally well

This switch is super helpful for opening more Ethernet ports. My wife and I are gamers and we need light speed connections. We ordered 2 eero 6+ routers but they came with only 2 Ethernet slots in the back, so 4 in total, but 1 slot is taken by the modem connection, one is taken up by our TV, and the other router is in the back of our apartment (but we don’t have long enough Ethernet cord) so our 2 gaming PCs are Ethernet less.I looked on Amazon and saw this switch and the raving reviews. Decided to try it and am back to say it is as functional and great as others have noted. It was super easy to set up out of the box, literally just plug and play. It is very lightweight too and not heavy like our modem. It delivers the exact speed that our ISP provides which is 500 Mbps, and we achieve over that sometimes using the Ookla internet speed test. Its performance is top notch with good signal. It does not get hot, we’re using almost all the ports and it’s cool and is still as powerful as one. Haven’t had any blips or issues so far and our games has been running smoothly. I highly recommend this cost effective switch and won’t be afraid to order more when I move to my own home.

VERY QUIET IF YOU USE NOCTUA FAN (bye bye warranty, do at your own risk)

The media could not be loaded. 10/23/2024 : (If you choose to replace the fan, you do it at your own risk, and I take no responsibility for the outcome.) I pulled the trigger and installed the Noctua NF-A4x20 FLX 12v 0.05A, and now the unit runs SUPER QUIET. I cannot hear it at all from 10 feet away, and up close it just sounds like a soft hum, quite pleasant, as is the nature of noctua. Since I got this switch on a pretty good deal, I did not want to return it, so I decided to just use a razor to carefully cut the soft rubber on the plug of the original fan's wire, after which it easily came off. Use a small flat screwdriver, or tweezer, to "unclip" the security tab (on the 3-pin header) before pulling the plug, otherwise the entire head will come off. It is easy to unscrew the two screws of the old fan. To install the noctua i just used the larger washer, and i don't think you need even that tbh (or u can just use the screws that come with the noctua fan for the quickest, easiest installation). Now, it runs super quiet with smooth airflow, and should last even longer than with the original fan. I will update if the unit fails, if not, assume it is still running solid. I decided to share because of all the other times when generous people voided their own warranties in order to help the community out. So, I can confirm the noctua fan works, and is very, very, very very quiet. If you choose to replace it, you do it at your own risk, and I take no responsibility for the outcome.10/22/2024 : I spent a lot of time trying to make this work, because other than the fan it is an excellent unit (talk about weak link in the chain!!). I definitely did NOT open this up, and did NOT peak inside, but from other videos/pics on the internet I found that it has 1 small fan that is plugged into a 3-pin header, so technically it *should* be very easy to switch with a Noctua NF-A4x20 FLX 12v 0.05A. Except, TP-Link in their infinite wisdom, apparently, have also layered some wax/silicon type goo on the 3-pin plug, pretty much ensuring that you void the warranty if you try to switch out the fan. I am so disappointed, given how sensible their other products seem to be made. Why put a server-grade fan in a consumer-grade product? And then make it impossible for the consumer to upgrade the fan to a normal one? Very disappointed. I am seriously debating whether to return and wait for a quiet model in 1-2-3 years, or to just risk the warranty and replace with a noctua.Original: Reading other reviews, I thought it would make a moderate hum, not notable from 15-20 feet away. Nope. The fan is high pitched, the type of cpu fans from 20 year ago (remember those?). This had a good sale on the big sale day so I was eager to get it. Sadly as soon as I plugged it in I knew it was too noisy. It whines for about a minute, then stops, making you think maybe it was just startup noise. But, even with NO load, AND in front of TWO high end fans, the internal fan kicked on and stayed on. Wow. I am so shocked, at this price, these fans are ridiculous!!!! Can only be used in a server room, away from humans. Very unpleasant sound. I have some big NAS hard drives that churn in my living room, and those sound like gentle chugs compared to this. Anyway, I went with the 5-port passive version that was also on sale — that one is working solidly and with my fans should remain within decent temps.I have added a video, excuse the mess, but it actually sounds much louder in real life. The sound it makes up close in the video is what it sounds like from 15 feet away in a quiet room. I unplugged it at the end of the video which is why it stopped. Do not get this 8-port if your have a quiet room or plan to watch movie or sleep or live around it. I honestly expected more from tp-link, I am shocked …

Easy Fan mod fixes it's one main issue!

My review is specifically on the fan swap others have done to quiet the unit down. I have only had this unit 1 day but zero complaints so far other than the fan noise out of the box would have been a little too high as our network panel is located in the main closet in our master bedroom.I was able to install the Noctua NF-A4x20 FLX using the default cable (no adaptor needed), a screwdriver and needle nose pliers to hold the nut inside the case in about 5 minutes. There is some gel on the sides of the stock fan cable to hold it in place but it pulls off easy and wont damage anything..Initial fan reading was 58db, this dropped it to 53db. Nothing ground breaking but definitely noticeable in a quiet room.

Top quality. Works flawlessly.

Metal construction. No slip feet. Power level is perfect. Good isolation. Performance is flawless.I bought this to bring funtion to more than one device from my mesh router, by way of ethernet. My situation is, I have a fiber modem that provider locks all but one ethernet output. That output goes to a mesh router that has one input and one output. I wanted to be able to run ethernet to computer, TV, home security DVR. All from that one mesh out put. This was the answer. And for some reason all my devices are reporting higher speeds, with consistency, and less loss.Great problem solver at a great price.

Great little managed GBe switch at the cost of a cheap non-managed version

First, this is really a 5 star for the cost, but I am going to give it 4 because no one reads the 5 stars, and there is room for improvement. This switch does it's job and seems to do it well so far. I have a trunk port setup on port 1 with two VLANS that are then broken out for my untagged devices. One VLAN is on ports 2-4 and the other is 5-8. Things are working well.If all you need is some VLAN tagging, to be able to look at the web gui for some basic statistics (port up/down, errors, negotiated speeds/duplex, etc) and maybe some QOS - or even some LAG mixed in - then this will work for you.You can even mirror a port if needed. One thing that would be nice but is completely missing is SNMP.You can backup/restore configs which is great. It appears it only supports one user account. So, that all said - this is a very basic managed switch with some useful features that will work for most needs that this switch is appropriate for. SNMP would be a very nice addition, but I suppose if you want that, you're going to have to spend more than what lunch would cost you at a fast food joint these days LOL!
